I know this post is about 3 or 4 months out of sync with probably 100% of you, but if you’re lucky like me and still have a holiday to look forward to then this is for you guys. This is also for anyone else who just wants to have a read. Okay, it’s for everyone as these buys might be helpful for any occasion.
If you’re also like me, then you’ll find that the most exciting part about actually going on holiday, is the shopping for the toiletries before hand. It’s my favourite part. (Okay the tan, and the memories are good too blah blah). There’s nothing better than gliding in past the sliding doors of Boots and being unleashed by your significant other to go wild. You start having irrational thoughts. The list goes out the window. And you tell yourself you need those 4 bottles of aftersun and body lotion for the week you’ve planned away. (Its coconut scented and really adds to the holiday experience *cradles the bottles like a new born child*)
So I’ve named this a ‘holiday haul.’ And it is to an extent because I’m going to use and abuse every single one of them on holiday but at the end of the day it’s just a really random group of things I bought when I forgot about my list on my notes section of my phone. There’s also a couple of non toiletry items here too *gasp* because WHY NOT.
SIDE NOTE: I’m not a photographer. If I was then you’d probably be able to see the top left hand product. But fear not, it’s photographed in all its IPhone glory further down.
No1 – My everyday shampoo and conditioner tends to be from the ‘Aussie’ brand because I absolutely love the smell and can’t get enough of their witty captions. Whenever I go on holiday (well, since they launched this ‘Beach Mate’ campaign) I’ve been buying it. Maybe I’m a sucker for words but I truly believe what it says on the packaging ‘There’s more to life than hair but it’s a good place to start.‘ To be fair, you could insert any of your favourite things into that sentence and it would still be true but I digress. The smell of this duo is just ‘eughhh.’ That’s not even a legit word but I still used it. I want to eat my hair afterwards. Plus, it’s a life saver for when your hair is a salty, beachy, sandy mess and needs a little TLC as its filled with Macadamia Nut Oil. For me, it’s a no brainer. Currently on offer in Superdrug for 2 for £7.
No 2 – Okay, I only seem to buy this shower gel when I’m going on holiday because I love being in a hot place and then getting out the shower when I’ve just used it. (Doesn’t have the same effect in rainy Liverpool.) It’s MINTY. It’s FRESH. As I’m sure you’re aware. It tingles EVERY body part and is so much more exciting than an everyday non tingling shower gel don’t you think? Most of the time, Original Source products are on offer, like the time I got this in Boots for £1. Give it a try if you haven’t already done. I dare ya.
No.3 – Toothpaste is a bit of a given when travelling anywhere in my opinion. But my pet hate is having to take with you a full family sized toothpaste. So this year, I’m making some changes. Boots do really handy travel sized versions of our favourite and essential toiletry buys. And the majority of the time they’re on 3 for 2. So I thought I’d try this Pearl Drops specialist white toothpaste – for outstanding whiteness YOU CAN SEE. When I bought this toothpaste all I could think about was me on holiday with a sick bronzed tan and some pearly whites. And so I picked it up, popped it in my basket and continued to day dream about said white teeth and tan all around Boots. I JUST CAN’T WAIT.
No.4 – Now. If anyone knows me, they know that I would give life for a good highlighter. So I was too excited when I saw that L’Oreal had just released a new highlighter range to go with their True Match Campaign. The tube itself glistens in the light. So instantly I was hooked. Obviously.
SIDE NOTE – Prior to buying this highlighter I had picked up Maybellines new ‘Strobe Stick’ which I was excited to try because you know, sparkle and all that. But then I reminded myself (I hate when I do that) that it was basically just a dupe for my Benefit ‘Watts Up’ highlighter which I love and so ventured towards a liquid formula instead. I can be too sensible at times.
It’s a 3-in-1 liquid glow illuminator. Everything about that sentence makes my insides go funny. It can be used as a primer under your foundation, mixed in with your foundation or used as a highlighter on top of your foundation. I love options. And this gives me options! The one I’ve bought says it’s for skin with ‘warm undertones.’ And to be completely honest I don’t even know what undertone category I fall into but it’s just so new and exciting to try. So I shall get back to you!
No.5 – My go to concealer. My ride and die. If this concealer was a person, we’d be best friends. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Warm Medium. It’s so creamy and blendable and great coverage. And it’s under a fiver. Everyone raves about it and I do too. It’s an essential in my holiday makeup bag for the times I just want to go commando but still look fresh eyed. Winner.
No. 6 – This purchase is off the back of my normal butter gloss purchase being out of stock in Boots. They’ve recently started stocking NYX products in the Boots in Clayton Square, Liverpool and I’m so so so happy. Like a kid on Christmas. I love their makeup fixing sprays and love their range of Butter Glosses. I normally buy BLG14 – Madeleine, which is a nude/brown gloss but my recent trip saw me take away a more subtle pink/nude which for those wondering is called BLG05 – Creme Brulee. The formula is so creamy and shiny and literally glides on like butter.
No.7 – I’ve recently tried this tissue mask because it’s currently on offer in Boots for 99p. Absolute bargain and I must say, it gives your skin sooo much hydration. Basically, the title ‘Moisture Bomb’ reeled me in as I’m always on the look out for products that will revitalise my dull, tired sometimes sallow skin. This mask is SUPER moisturising in the sense that it’s literally dripping with serum. I had some issues with getting the mask to fit my face properly because it’s obviously going to be a generic face template but after adjusting the mask contours onto the shape of my head, it felt pretty amazing. I also looked pretty terrifying. Leave on for 15 mins then peel off and your skin instantly looks intensely hydrated and any excess serum that’s left on your face can be rubbed in. Don’t waste any! So I probably won’t use this on actual holiday, my thought process was more to try and use it on the plane as my skin can get so dry and dehydrated while up in the air!
Non Toiletry Items.
Monki Sunglasses (bought from Asos – £8)
Sunglasses are possibly the most essential things on holiday. Apart from suncream…and bikinis…and flip flops…
The majority of the sunglasses I own are literally so similar to this – a cat eye with a tortoise shell pattern but I just couldn’t say no to a new pair. They come with a handy little bag so they don’t get dirty however I don’t how long it will take before I lose everything that came with the sunglasses. Including the handy string so I don’t end up losing the actual item itself! Woohoo!
Now. This bag. Was an absolute bargain. So it’s from Primark. And I have a love/hate relationship with Primark because I don’t know about you but the majority of the time they have reallllllly good ideas and clothes but just take it one step further with another detail or design on it and the item goes from being really on trend and fashionable, to just a bit tacky. So when you do find a gem like this in Primark, you hold onto it and cradle it and don’t let go. For £5, I’ve got my holiday clutch sorted. I will literally use this with every outfit on holiday because its rose gold and textured and looks F.A.B. and quite frankly it doesn’t look like you’d pick it up in Primark. That is all.
Let me know if you’re the same when it comes to holiday toiletries and what ones can you not live without on holiday!
