So I wanted to write down a few products that I thought would be perfect to create a natural, fresh faced look for Valentines. I didn’t want to be cheesy but I at least wanted to recognise the day seeing as though it’s become such a big thing over the years! Over the weekend me and my boyfriend wined and dined at the Secret Diners Club Valentines Day special on Love Lane in Liverpool. And it was great. And while I was getting ready, I found myself reaching for products in my makeup bag that were the lovely hues of pink and red and browns that just make you feel all romantical (legit just made up a word).
To start off my makeup prep, I used the Pure Clay ‘Glow’ mask by L’Oreal which is a recent purchase as I’ve heard so many good thins about this collection. I originally wanted to try the Charcoal version but seems to be so popular and sold out in every Boots I ventured to. Boo. However, I am ALWAYS on the lookout for a product that will brighten my face and give me a glow and I’ve wanted to start adding a face mask into my skincare routine so what better way than with this little beauty. Immediately my skin did feel a LOT smoother and softer and therefore I felt like it was a lot brighter. With constant use I do feel like I will see visible results. It’s just a great start off to a fresh faced makeup look getting rid of any impurities in my skin and creating a smooth canvas!
Currently in Boots with £2 off it’s original price!
Next you want to create a glowing base. Once I’ve applied and removed my face mask, I always always moisturise and prime no matter what I’m doing or where I’m going (that’s if I’m applying makeup) So my 2 go to products are the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream and Laura Mercier Radiance Primer. For my foundation I decided I wanted something light which allowed my skin to be pretty ‘free.’ I didn’t want to feel cakey (which I always make sure I don’t anyway) so I decided on the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser in the shade ‘Bisque.’ I’d previously tanned so this is the colour that best goes with that. It’s so natural and it literally goes on as thin as a moisturiser. For a little extra coverage, I chose the Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in ‘Ivory.’ This concealer is a couple of shades lighter than my skin tone so I used it under my eyes to brighten and then around the red areas of my nose and a little on my chin!
These two palettes literally contain some of the best colours I have ever seen. The NYX Ultimate palette (featured 1st) has the perfect hues of browns, reds and pinks to create an amazing sultry eye and combined with ‘Trick’ from the Naked 3 palette (shown straight above) it’s just the best. The colour pay out for both palettes are AMAZING and I absolutely love ‘strange’ on the eyebrow bone. These types of colours are perfect for a Valentines look but can obviously be used all year round. My loves.
Next is mascara. I always curl my eyelashes. Twice before I apply my mascara and then again once it has set. My go to mascara for the perfect false eyelashes effect is the Maybelline Lash Sensational which I have spoke about before in my ‘What I wore on my face today’ post. Have a look here. The brush is amazing, the formula doesn’t go clumpy and it reaches every single lash.
For blush, and to fake that ‘naturally flushed and bronzed’ look, I used MAC’s Mineralise Skin Finish in ‘Cheeky Bronze.’ After contouring, I follow the same lines underneath my cheekbones and blended this into my contour and then added a little to the apples of my cheeks. It gives you the perfect natural glow as it contains highlight pigments too. It’s amazing.
It goes without saying that you want the perfect pout on Valentines day. Or any day of the week really. And it goes without saying that it starts with a bit of prep. Especially if you decide to go matte. I always start off with the Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum to get rid of any excess skin on my lips because it’s a great product and it tastes bloody gorgeous. Please note you’re not meant to eat this but it’s basically just a pot of bubblegum sugar and what’s not to love about that? Next, the secret to a lasting lip is a lipliner as the majority of people will already use. I used Primarks ‘PS…’ Lip Liner in this muted browny/ pink colour (doesn’t have a name) and it’s actually really good! And cost me like £1. So a bargain. The liner itself goes on really smoothly and is quite creamy and easy to apply. Then I finished with the NYX Liquid Lipstick ‘Lingerie’ in the colour Bedroom Flirt and it’s just the perfect ‘your lips but better colour.’ It dries matte and it just feels like velvet.
…And that’s a little snapshot of the products I used to create a Valentines look for the weekend! Are there any products you would recommend or have tried that I’ve talked about? Let me know!
