Hi everyone. It’s me. Little old Kate. Wow it’s been a hot minute since I last sat down to start typing away on my laptop for something other than work. Now that’s not a bad thing but it’s also not a good thing. Because I love my little corner of the internet and quite frankly – I’ve missed it. The reason I’ve missed it is because I have SO many new things to tell you all about – beauty and skincare obviously. I’ve had a roller coaster of a summer and beginning of autumn with my skin but we’re here now, starting to see the light at the end of a tunnel. Fingers crossed. Are you ready to see some bloody good products? Essentially a roundup of the things that I’ve been loving over the past year and have made the cut in my everyday makeup and skincare routine. I love them all.
skincare// Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm
I mentioned this product back in June when I bought myself a little tester pot just to try out new ways of taking my makeup off. Having used it since June, I can safely say it’s one of the most life changing products I’ve used (without sounding dramatic – but it’s true) Forget makeup wipes (ew), forget micellar water and cotton wool pads, I’ve found myself enjoying taking my time with this balm and really massaging it into my face and enjoying the spa like smell that comes with it. I take it off with some reusable face pads from Home & Bargains (dupes of the Face Halo most definitely) and it’s just so gentle to use over the eyes to take any eye makeup off and mascara even if that area does need a little bit more of a rub than others. It’s been leaving my skin so soft and smooth and so much more clean feeling! It’s definitely helping me when it comes to my dry skin and eczema on my face – it’s a lot more gentle and nourishing than using micellar water which I find can dry out and strip my skin.
skincare// Cetaphil Face & Body Cleanser
Another game changer in my skincare routine is the gentle skin cleanser by Cetaphil. As the title suggests, it’s such a gentle cleanser which I either alternate with my Elemis Balm or use afterwards for a double cleanse and it really soothes and cleanses my skin. It’s soap free so it doesn’t foam which I love and doesn’t leave my skin irritated – I even use it as my body wash too and it’s so gentle for my eczema and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin and how it’s beginning to be a lot less irritated – and that’s just within 3 weeks of using it!
skincare// Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
Bit of a boujee product, not going to lie, and it’s not in everyone’s budgets but this has been a true staple in my nighttime skin routine since I got it back in June. I love a bargain and I love products that work just as well as those luxury brands but sometimes you just have to make an ‘investment’ and I think this is one of those products. I never really used a serum before buying this and I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s really done something to my skin over the time I’ve been using it. It’s revitalising and I just think it helps all my other products really sink into my skin properly and do their job.
skincare// Superdrug Naturally Radiant Renewing Night Cream
Just as much as I love treating myself to a boujee skincare item, I love finding a bargain that actually works and I’ve found it with this renewing night cream. Superdrug’s own brands absolutely smash it for me in terms of the range they offer, the quality of their products but also the price of them too! I use this every night after my Advanced Night Repair Serum and it sinks really well into the skin. Plus it smells like fruit which is so refreshing and calming!
skincare// E45 Rich 24hr Cream
Believe me when I tell you I’ve tried so many different body lotions to help with my eczema – Aveeno, Nivea, Lush, Childs Farm – the lot. I don’t know whether it’s entirely down to the Cetaphil cleanser I’m using as my body wash in the shower, this cream or most probably a combination but I’ve found this to be the most soothing for my skin. In such a short space of time, I find that I’m itching my legs less (where I get eczema the most) and I’m not having as many eczema breakouts where I once was. Touch wood this continues! It sinks into my skin instantly so doesn’t leave it sticky which I find most creams dedicated to eczema are!
skincare// Revolution CBD Facial Oil
So I am shook. I do like the odd Revolution eyeshadow palette and their foundation sticks are bomb for using as a contour however I was dubious about dipping into their skincare, especially since I have such sensitive skin. Boy oh boy this facial oil is my baby – made with cannabidoil, it calms and soothes skin prone to dry patches and sensitivity (HELLO MY WHOLE FACE). Being completely transparent, it does not solve all my problems but it’s helped me cope better with my flares ups and takes the sting out of that week a month where my skin is unbearable and reduces me tears so I say that was a win for only £10!
skincare// Alex Steinherr x Primark Oil to Milk Cleanser
Going in hard on the skincare aren’t I? I’ve realised that the key to good looking makeup is making sure the skin underneath it is as protected and healthy and hydrated as possible and that comes from good skincare and good health (diet is still pending – I’m only human!!) So, I know Alex Steinherr brought out her skincare collection Christmas 2018 and I bought into every product she released and in all honestly wasn’t really overwhelmed. I love her moisture mask and can’t get enough of them but everything else just wasn’t rocking my world. However, the oil to milk cleanser has been a surprising addition to my skincare routine and I’m not mad at it! I love the oil to milk consistency when you add water and I love rubbing the oil all over my face and really feeling like I’m giving my face a hug with hydration and after washing it off with a cleasning cloth my face feels squeaky clean. HOWEVER, the eye sting is real girls and boys. It’s something I can personally live with but taking your eye make up off with this product does come with a warning – it does sting your eyes even if only for a minute. With that being said, it’s still very much an integral part of my nighttime skincare routine.
skincare// Lacura Moisture Boost Moisturiser
What a find! This product has me clutching for my morals here as I know how hard it must be for company’s to find that their products have been duped with a lower price point however I must say, it allows most people who can’t afford the first product to still have a chance at using something that is actually good! This Aldi ‘Lacura’ moisturiser is the dupe of Clinique’s Moisture Surge and I must say it’s such an amazing day moisturiser and sinks into your skin like a dream. Keeps it hydrated all day and is not too heavy to wear underneath makeup. It’s too thin of a consistency for me to wear at night, that’s why I have a night cream but it really does do the job for day!
skincare// Pixi ‘Peel & Polish’ Enzyme Peel
I love Pixi skincare. Their Pixi Glow Tonic is my ULTIMATE go to toner and also makes the cut but I’m currently out of stock in it and I’m hoping Father Christmas throws one in my stocking this year! I use this product as a mask/exfoliator and can really feel a difference when I use this twice a week – it gives my skin such a lift and it makes it so much brighter and softer (even after the first use!) The natural fruit enzymes in this product exfoliate and polish the skin, lifting away dead skin cells and leaves your face more smooth, radiant and healthy. A big fat YES to all 3!
makeup// Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser in Nude
I love this tinted moisturiser and love it even more with how nourishing it is for my skin with its added skincare ingredients and SPF 30 (absolute no brainer that you should try and buy a foundation or tinted moisturiser with added SPF!) Like the skincare advocate that I am, I love that this product contains macadamia and kukui seed oils which support healthy skin function and also tamarind seed extract which locks in moisture to give extra antioxidant protection. It’s just great knowing that this foundation is helping my face and not clogging up my pores! It’s so natural and gives you the most glorious glow – the perfect ‘I woke up like this’ makeup look. (FYI I did NOT wake up like this)
makeup// Laura Mercier Radiance Primer
This has been a staple in my makeup bag for years. When I first started my blog back in 2016, I did a whole product review of it because I just wanted to shout about it! It’s the most perfect base giving you a shimmering, glowing look. It makes everything else sit so much more perfectly and gives you a ‘lit from within’ sort of look. Isn’t that what we all yearn for? I can’t tell you what number tube I’m onto but a little goes a long way but I love to just lather my face with it. Sometimes I even mix my Nuxe Nourishing Oil in with it for my base JUST to be boujee. It’s great and I give it a whopping 10/10.
makeup// Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick ‘Pillow Talk’
Talk about favourites. This beauty of a lipstick has been in a previous favourites post and it remains as the main lipstick of choice for any event. That’s what makes it one of the best beauty products of the year in my opinion. It’s ‘your lips but better.’ So cliche but so true. It’s the most perfect pink nude that makes your lips look voluminousness (is that a word?) and so natural. I’ve tried my hardest to get into more brighter shades of lipsticks, trying different variations of reds and pinks and even had a phase at 18 where you’d find me donning the latest MAC ‘heroine’ or ‘dark side’ but for me, you cannot beat finding the perfect nude shade to wear with ANYTHING and pillow talk is what it’s all about.
makeup// Morphe Buffing Brush – M446
When you find the perfect foundation brush you hold onto it, hug it and never let it go okay? And make sure you’re definitely regularly cleaning it so that it gives you the best base application ever. The Morphe M446 brush does everything and more for me. It blends whatever type of foundation I’m using effortlessly and really buffs the product into your skin. There was a phase in my life when the Real Techniques buffing brush was the only brush for me, then I moved onto a whole new life of beauty blenders and I’m still enjoying them too, however, sometimes a brush brings more to the table – absorbing less product than a sponge meaning your foundation lasts longer (and who doesn’t love that?)
Guys, I hope you’ve enjoyed my mammoth EDIT for 2019. It’s hard to narrow things down into a list, especially when you’re a makeup/skincare hoarder like me! Have an amazing Christmas & a Happy New Year!
